Discourses

When I think about discourse, the site Discord comes to mind. However, that would only be partially correct, discourse is a conversation between people of similar interests. But, when I talk about discourse, I am referring to it on a deeper level. What I mean is that the discourse that I engage in will help me progress towards my future career. The way that I think about it is that I am in college now to learn how to be part of my discourse, how to talk, think, write and anything else that it requires. All of us also have primary discourses which is what we learn in the comfort of our own homes. Then we have our secondary discourses, everything we learn outside of our home. These two combined will ultimately make up the values that a person holds. When we talk about primary and secondary discourses, we cannot forget to also mention dominant and non-dominant discourses. Dominant discourses will allow us to gain “goods,” like money in the future. A non-dominant discourse would be a skill of some sorts that does not increase that ability to gain “goods.” A dominate secondary discourse that has become very prominent in today’s day and age is computer literacy. Even though, a person’s environment, race, gender and culture does affect whether or not they are able to have access to a computer, it has become easier to come into. Computer literacy has really come a long way, from being able to communicate with people to keeping up with the news to making money. The computer literacy that we posses has greatly improved compared to when the computer was first introduced.
