Writing In General: Myth or Fact?

Throughout reading both articles, it was clear Wardle believes that to write successfully a writer must be able to adapt to their current situation, purpose, audience, etc. She mentions that when we write, it is always for someone else. Such as in a journal to our future selves. Because of that, writers require an understanding of what is expected. However, sometimes people convince themselves that writing in general is real because it takes some of the pressure off and makes the process seem easier. Unfortunately, that is a concept that only causes frustration amongst everyone because if that was the case then teachers would no longer have to help their students/employees and would just be able to criticize them for not meeting their standards. And that in itself would cause backlash onto the teachers for not doing their job fulfillingly.

Wardle argues that the best way to write is remembering our own experiences, learning to write in different situations, then applying that to memory to what we and other people can achieve. A key point of how writing works is everything a writer does is impacted by the situation in which they are writing. You can not expect to know everything there is to know about writing because every time you write, you will have to adapt to what is currently happening in your life and around you. You will be constantly learning and readapting and even repurposing what you already have learned into new situations. If we keep in mind that writing in general does not exist we will be more capable of using what we know effectively. This is why it is important to be aware of context, examples, and be willing to go through trial and error.
