After reading “ Decisions and Revisions: The Planning Strategies of a Publishing Writer, and Response of a Laboratory Rat: Or, Being Protocoled” by Berkenkotter and Murray. I saw many similarities between how I write and how Murray writes. Berkenkotter mentions how when writing Murray uses a speak aloud method where he says aloud the steps he wants to take when writing whatever he’s working on and then “sees where it goes from there.” I instill a similar tactic thats just less vocal, when writing I often create what some could consider an outline except it is much less in depth and is just short words that I want to associate with what im writing. I do this so that when I am writing I have something to work off from and from there I ‘see where it goes’. This is similar to Murray. I think that Berkentotter makes a good example with Murray on how environments and unfamiliar topics can play a very large role in how a writer works, whether it being slow or fast. In Murrays case, from what we read, he was a very fast and efficient writer like the example where he was brushing his teeth and came up with the title for the paper he was reading. All of those examples and seeing how his brain worked pointed to him being a very efficient writer however he still hit walls and got stuck when writing in different environments and when writing something that was very unfamiliar.
