I rightfully believe that all teachers should be fluent in the literacies that pertain to their students. If teachers are fluent in the literacies that entertain their students they will keep their class interested. For example, if a certain class shows more interest in assignments that are online, it would be in the teachers best interest to learn more about technology. Virtual assignments can be made in order to keep their students engaged. Keeping their students engaged would bring positive attributes to the class such as fulfilled work and happy students.
Technology is evolving each and every day. Yes, parents are going to be concerned with how much time their child is spending online, but if teachers are instilling the good side of the internet, the parents need to reinforce it. Our lives are becoming paperless. Since I began my studies at Kean, I don’t think I have ever picked up a paper and pen assignment. Everything’s been online. It has become our new normal. It will most likely be the normal for younger students as well.
When the time comes, we have to make sure we support our teachers and our kids/ students. We saw a glimpse of what virtual life would be like during the pandemic and a lot of kids fell through the cracks. Our kids are learning daily just as our teachers are. Teachers tend to try and find ways that will keep children engaged in their word. I had a teacher that told us to make a social media page in order to connect a book we were reading to present day life. It is all about keeping learning alive and connecting with the students.
