The Future of Literacy

As the world evolves, so does technology. In past centuries, there was no such thing as online work and literature. Everything was presented through textbooks and printed images/ papers. However, educators can not continue the ways they were taught growing up because it is outdated. The next generation must learn and understand how to use technology as it is the future of society. Though it may not seem like a challenge, it has been an issue in multiple different situations. One story shared in Carmen Luke’s journal was a mother whose seventh-grade son was not allowed to use technology in any way, shape, or form for his class. When he reached eighth grade, his class was based solely on technology and what he could do via the Internet. It is difficult for students to grow and learn if teachers are not all on the same page. Many teachers are still technology illiterate and need to be taught how to teach their students in such an evolving period. Educators must be willing to upgrade the format of their lessons as technology advances. I believe this is a huge problem in society. Though I may not love doing all my work on a computer and sometimes prefer paper copies, I understand and can recognize that it is not exactly realistic. As I have gone to school, my classes have become more and more technology-friendly. However, I do still have a few professors who are not keen on the idea of using technology for class. I know that the future is mostly virtual and these professors need to acknowledge it as well.
