Why study and learn about writing?

I believe it is important to study writing to learn key abilities when writing an essay. The reasons I will present are also drawn from, Elizabeth Wardle’s “You Can Learn to Write in General” and Catherine Savini’s “Looking for Trouble: Finding Your Way into a Writing Assignment”. To start I believe a key concept is how to formulate a sentence in a way that’s clear to the audience but still complex enough to convey one’s thoughts. This also correlates with sentences flowing easily with coherent words and phrases. Another viewpoint that was proposed in one of the readings is that writing is never “general”. It is always particular and it’s good to keep it that way in order to prevent excess info that may not be necessary to a particular topic at hand. Also, while studying writing, it is important to learn new innovative ways to brainstorm. Writer’s block is a real thing, but because it’s so apparent many strategies can be taught, to limit this occurrence. Learning how to write is not just important for the course’s sake but is important for any person wanting to pursue any type of profession. Every profession takes communication and it is important to be able to convey your thoughts in the best way possible. Lastly, in writing, grammar is essential because of how different the same phrase or sentence can become with slight grammar changes. When writing for the intent of someone to read it, it is very unprofessional for grammar to be off. Studying writing expands upon all of the points I discussed, putting the writer in the best possible position to succeed.
