Going into this article I was a bit confused on what James Paul Gee was going to say but as I began reading the article I started to become interested in what he was talking about. How in this world Language is a misleading term because when it comes to language it’s not only what you can understand, but it’s what you can say and how you say it. He went on to explain how if he were to walk into a bar and ask for a match like this “May i have a match please”, he states that, that is perfect grammar. James gives another example on how “Gimme a match wouldya” society would view it as the wrong way to ask for something. James Paul Gee makes things even clearer when he talks about how people in different cultures have their own discourse when it comes to how to act, talk, write etc. Social practice is a huge way to develop Discourse as you are learning from others and as you get older you learn other linguistics. If you don’t get social practices you won’t get that experience to develop discourse.

When it comes to the cervetti Article it basically explains how teachers should be taught on how to expand literacy that moves beyond physiological skill focused view, multiple literacies involved many forms of literacy involving different times in era’s and communities. Literacy is also a social practice, there’s more to literacy than just reading and writing, like the article says there are Cultural, social and historical factors that go into literacy it is way more than school teaches us.
