The Forbes article Multitasking Damages Your Brain And Career, New Studies Suggest by Travis Bradberry suggests that multitasking isn’t good for you in all aspects. Bradberry states that if you multitask, you bring your IQ down to an 8-year-old child, but I don’t know how accurate that is. He mentioned researchers have studied this but left no actual citation or evidence of this so called ‘research’, only a link to a site that no longer exists. The only part of this article I can see being true is that our brain can only have the capacity to focus on one thing at a time biologically because I do get really flustered when I have to multitask. I don’t think his theory can actually be put into practice or that any real change can come from it because the question still remains. How are we not supposed to multitask when that’s how our society functions? On work applications, a skill that’s often brought up is “Are you efficient at multitasking?”
Four things social media can teach you about college writing—and one thing it can’t, an article written by Ann N. Amicucci promotes social media when it comes to writing. She suggests four examples when it comes to excelling at social media and writing: know your audience, picking the right filters, symbolism, and references, along with the one thing it can’t, cutting the story short. The two definitions given in the text say, “Interdiscursivity happens when you implicitly borrow or riff off another text or writer… Intertextuality happens when you explicitly borrow ideas or material from another text, which automatically links what you’re writing to something else.” set up what she talks about for the remainder of the article. When we’re on social media, distracted or not, there’s inspiration everywhere. Without crossing the boundary of plagiarism, we can almost imitate what we like on social media. Say that’s a post on Instagram, an informative TikTok video, or a tweet on X that caught your attention. Amicucci gives a fresh take on this, and I have to say I somewhat agree. I don’t think social media is overall good for our brain health. But after reading this, maybe it’s not too bad?
