The article “I Won’t Hire People Who Use Poor Grammar. Here’s Why” by Kyle Wiens came off in my opinion a little harsh. I do believe that there’s professional writing, but I feel like he took it to a whole harsh level of mindless. Learning that one simple mistake can make others look at an individual differently is sad to be honest. Let’s say it was a typo or a simple mistake that the writer didn’t seem to catch and yes that’s where revision come in but that doesn’t mean the writer doesn’t have any knowledge about that topic. It’s fascinating to me how people are quick to dismiss a person for one simple mistake that doesn’t reflect on who they are truly.
I can agree with him that it is essential to understand the difference between “to, too” but also, I feel like some individuals don’t know. As someone whose first language was Spanish it was hard learning English. Simple words like “to, too” seemed hard to understand and comprehend. I believe that people whose first language is English should know at least the difference between the two and other words that he mentioned in the article as well.
I believe every individual has different grammar for different people. The same way I speak to my professor is not the same way I speak to my parents, and the same way I speak to my parents is not the same way I speak to my friends and siblings. Grammar is a tool we use for our language.
