Why should Language, and Grammar be a Barrier?

This week, we read two articles. I won’t hire people who use poor grammar; official American English is a choice. I decided to tie the two together to make my point across; it sounds arrogant to not hire a human due to their poor grammar. Kyle states, “Grammar signifies more than just a person’s ability to remember high school English. ” As a college student, there are moments that I re-read writing assignments and sound like a 12-year-old wrote it. So, not giving someone employment simply because someone believes they aren’t “paying attention to detail” is insane. I would propose that he open his mind a little, and maybe if his company has the funds, he can hire someone to proofread and edit the blog posts or whatever. He is missing out on creative minds and humans with potential, and he limits himself to settle simply because of grammar. To tie it in with our second article, the English language is a choice! In a country with 1,000’s of migrants from all over the world. It’s rare to have someone who fully understands English – it’s complex, there are sentences and phrases that I’m translating, and it’s not easy. In 2024, we should allow humans to speak, write, and listen in our official language. It’s easier to truly explain what we are trying to get across. We create barriers when we use language or grammar as reasons not to be fully present. Instead of unifying ourselves together, we are creating separateness. Just think of the loss that a human has gone through leaving their country to come to the “land of the free” to study and learn the English language, which is hard as it is. Then, he will not be able to land a job due to his “grammar.” I believe it’s unfair, but we also live in a country with free will, and we are people simply because they feel like it also gets to deny service and jobs to humans in need.
