I thought the article “I won’t hire people who use poor grammar. Here’s why,” by Kyle Wiens was a very interesting read. The reason is that he has a pretty decent point. He emphasizes that grammar is not only about following rules but also about clear communication. He believes that it is extremely crucial in any profession that good grammar is an indication of good character in the workplace. Another interesting part is that he respects others’ opinions for the opposite side of the argument. Which is that some workplaces do not require grammar as the top priority. Wiens thinks it undermines the company as a whole and slows down the process of a company’s build.

Discussion

After reading this article I do have to agree with Wiens as I mentioned before. Some workspaces are filled with geniuses that know basic grammar. Sometimes in order to be successful you really need to know the basics. But I also agree with Wiens’s opposing sides’ arguments that grammar is really not needed in certain workspaces like regular entry-level jobs. I can honestly sit here all day and tell you how many people do not know their ‘to’ do their ‘too’. I can tell you that there are some people that do not know the differences between ‘Their’, ‘they’re’ and ‘there’. They all have 6 figure jobs, honestly. That is why I half agree with Wiens because I know so many people personally who just are not good with grammar but are extremely successful in their own rights.
