I will discuss the importance of collaboration and why it is beneficial even when you think it won’t work. When collaborating on a project, there are questions of an unequal workload between the members of the group just not being on the same page. These points and explanations are discussed in the passage ” Eyeball to Eyeball”: Building a Special Collaboration by Rebecca Ingalls. Recalling times I have had to be a part of a group in order to do a project, my experiences went well. What I learned is that communication is key like in any relationship or partnership, and roles should be discussed. In the article, it gives examples of many questions that can be asked to determine the reason for the success or failure of the projects. For example, what was the purpose of the collaboration?; How was the group selected?; How did you make creative and strategic decisions? How did you divide labor? ; etc. A key to the success of a collaboration is understanding the project at hand. Everyone should understand the project and their role within the project. There are many different rules that have to be followed such as ethics, deadlines, and standards. When everyone is focusing on retrieving different info and putting it into their own words, it is very beneficial to have a check-in between the members to make sure everyone is on track and not stuck. The project should flow and come across as if there is one brain behind the collaboration, no matter the amount of members working on the project. Group work is not impossible, it just takes a lot more steps to ensure it goes correctly.
