Grammar & Using AAVE

I believe that Kyle Wiens’ view about grammar from his article “I Won’t Hire People Who Use Poor Grammar. Here’s Why” is the right approach in his line of profession. His companies are solely based on the fact of grammar and all the things needed for professional writing. Everyone working in his company should be sufficient in grammar as it is the sole base for a lot of the work that happens.

In other professions grammar may not be on the high priority list but it still holds some weight. You can’t say that you’re detail oriented if you miss several grammatical errors no matter how small. Then you aren’t actually detail oriented. All professions have some sort of writing element to it. An artist has to write the abstract of their art piece along with the name of the piece.
Kyle Wiens approach to writing is different from that of the writing used in “African American Language is good English” by Zachary Martin. While Wiens is all about proper grammar and writing the language used in Martin’s article has a lot of slang and abbreviation of words. I found Martin’s article to be an easy read. I have written and talked in that style mainly with friends or family. I do try to use proper grammar and word speech when I am writing or in a more professional setting.
Both styles of writing are important in terms of presenting information. Having the grammar skills of a Wiens’ employee will be suitable when I’m in the business world or fighting for a cause in which being articulate is a high point. However, on the other hand knowing how to write in African American Vernacular English or AAVE is needed when the audience is less formal and more casual.
