After reading the two articles by Wardle, I can say that I understand her take on the idea of writing. It is so true that there is no way to write in general because everyone is looking for something specific in anything you write. If I am going to read something I find interest in, it has to be specific to what my likes and interests are. An author has to figure out the likes and interests of the audience they are trying to target.
There’s no way to write in general or for a general audience. Wardle even said that every time you write something, there is someone you are writing for. Or there is a reason behind what you are writing, and someone will relate to it. A target audience wants you to write about key points or hit certain aspects of what they are looking for. “They” being the readers. My favorite genre is romance, so in any book I pick up, I am going to make sure that there is some romance in my novel.
In both articles Wardle discusses how with every writing situation, the writer needs time to adapt to what and who they are writing for. An example would be, if you are a publicist for a new company and you are working on an article that will showcase a new product, you have to learn about the product. After learning about the product you have to look at other marketing strategies that were used in order to publicize other products and if those worked. From there that’s where you make your decision on what to do.
