The Misbelief of General Writing.

I have to say I’ve never heard of writing in general but after reading about it I couldn’t agree more with Elizabeth Wardle. The concept of writing in general, I see it as limiting yourself when it comes to writing. You’re not allowing room for mistakes, drafts, criticism, and growth. Writing is a way for people to express themselves in their own unique style. It’s also a form of professional documentation for businesses or college classes. Therefore if writing in general existed it would be like copy and paste for every written paper. There are different types of writings such as poetry, narrative, biography, persuasive writing, journalism, business proposals and so on. For each of these different types of writing, they require different approaches towards topics, experiences, and studies. What someone may write for a creative writing class may not be able to be reused in a business meeting because they both reach different audiences with different perspectives for their topics. Even when it comes to us college students writing research papers and essays, every professor isn’t the same therefore they may have different rubrics and require some things another professor may not be. Writing is a skill that is taught but we take what we learned and expand on it to different levels like middle school to high school level writing. There’s always room for growth in writing, it’s not a one and done kind of thing. That’s why drafts are a thing and leaves space for others to give comments or their opinion on it. Strong writing comes with reflection because maybe along the way an experience or idea comes to mind that you may not have thought of when first writing but you know it can make your writing better. If writing in general existed you wouldn’t be able to go back and make changes, strong writers wouldn’t exist.
