Multitasking and using Social Media

After reading the article Four things Social Media Can Teach You about College Writing- and one thing it can’t by Ann N.Amicucci It is very interesting to see how social media can offer valuable insights into college writing. Ann points out that by observing how successful social media posts are more concise and impactful students can apply similar techniques to their academic writing in college. I feel as though this can be seen the most through twitter because on twitter you write tweets about how you’re feeling or thinking. If many people agree with you they’ll like your post. This can also help you be able to write your thoughts down when writing a paper or assignment. Also, social media can’t  teach you how to revise something because once it’s posted online it’s up for the world to see. While in writing you can rewrite the story and make edits which is a big part of the writing process. In the article The Effects of Chronic Multitasking on Analytical Writing the author makes it known that by being a chronic multitasker you tend to have perceived lower concentration levels and higher distraction levels. I feel like this is true because when I personally have to multitask I tend to get so distracted and caught up in what’s going on that I forget what I’m even supposed to be doing. My brain starts to get confused and will wander off. Also these two articles connect because social media may help you with college writing but social media can also be a distraction for you. Especially when trying to write an essay but your phone keeps getting many notifications.
