Multitasking Social Media Influence

While studies show that multitasking actually slows a person down I will continue to do it. In the society we live in today multitasking is essential in the lives of most people. Interestingly enough I feel like they should broaden their research in terms of the individuals they choose. Everyone has different capabilities. I multitask all the time and my work always gets done to a certain level of quality. My day to day life involves multitasking from almost start to finish. I multitask at work with my students. Watching, playing, teaching, and prepping supplies doesn’t work if I do it one thing at a time. I have to do all those tasks plus more sometimes just to get everything finished for the day or week.

The four things that social media and essay writing have in common is true of what Ann N. Amicucci says in her article Four Things Social Media Can Teach You about College Writing—and One Thing It Can’t. The things we do when we write a paper are very similar to the things we do to write a paper. Hashtags relate to finding your audience. Emojis translate into which punctuation marks. While picking a filter is choosing how to dress up your writing. The major difference between social media and writing a paper is that on social media you don’t have to explain the why aspect. Posting a picture of Justin Bieber and captioning it “He’s my idol” I don’t have to explain anything, it is just accepted as it is. However, if I write that Justin Bieber is my idol I’ll have to answer why and give details to justify my statement.

When we do all these things and more in an essay or even a social media post than we are multitasking. No one can escape social media just like they can’t escape writing or multitasking. To beginning writing I actually have to multitask certain steps so I can complete the job at hand.
