Editing and Formatting

Anytime I have written a document, I have always wondered why teachers and professors have been so big and made it so known how important it is to have a format for writing. From the font size to the color to where we place the subject headings and title. The article “An Introduction to and Strategies for Multimodal Composing” by Melanie Gagich offers five strategies for creating a multimodal text.

Multimodal text is basically when an individual uses two or more combinations of communication. The number of different communications it has provides a better visual and adds value to the writing. It also allows the writer to take many different approaches to their writing to make readers feel more engaged.

In the article “Beyond Black on White: Document Design and Formatting in the Writing Classroom” by Michael J. Klein & Kristi L. Shackelford recognize how the format of a piece of writing can influence the reader’s reading and how important it is. The authors of this article also pointed out that creating a specific format and having everything basically organized makes it easier for the reader to stay consistent and comprehend the information better.

My overall opinion is that I completely agree with both articles. I never knew why, when being assigned a writing assignment, it was important to have a specific format. Learning about this information as a writer will help me. Little things like tabs, subject headings and even pages can make it appealing to the readers who’re reading my paper.
