“Decisions and Revisions: The Planning Strategies of a Publishing Writer” by Carol Berkenkotter goes to try and explain the study she has done. The study involved an accomplished writer and what planning strategies will be used. Berkenkotter had the chance to do a study on Donald M. Murray. The study conducted on Murray was highly detailed and Berkenkotter gave Murray was given full control. The freedom that a writer can have is the only way a writer should have.

Berkenkotter theories of incubation and introspection. After looking into those theories myself, it does make sense. Incubation is when your mind is working when you take a step back and work unconsciously. During this stage, your brain will make new connections. That will help discover the new ideas that can go towards what you will be writing about. This was also something Professor Friend brought up on how he would go about compleign work. Keeping the thought in the back of his mind and when it was time to complete the assignment he had some ideas to put down.

The second theory was intrispection, and that’s about examing ones feelings, thoughts, and experiences. What can be taken away from this is that “It can help individuals understand their own values, beliefs, and the reasons behind their actions. Which can lead to personal development and a deeper understanding of oneself.” When keeping this in mind that you can understand the way write. You can tell why a writer can find in voice from reading their work to understand why their work is the way it is. Everyone writing style has a story behind it and builds with them to their own creation.
