Be able to read beyond words, and feel

This week, we had to read a passage by Ann M. Penrose and Cheryl Geiser on “Reading and Writing without Authority.” I resonated with Roger because of his openness as a writer. Writing is a playground; there’s no specific way to write or read. For all our brains are its universe, I enjoyed how Roger, with all his knowledge, didn’t “define” anything and simply left room for exploration. I just had a class yesterday in psychology – on the dangers of high self-esteem. They took Roger, educated on authority and had done his studies, and Janet, who knew nothing. It’s funny to see who’s more triggered in the situation. Roger took the time to identify, sort, evaluate, and analyze the claims in each part, while Janet looked to support them with facts. When you go into a trance of “Oh, this fits!” You begin to have very narrow and rigid thinking; it goes hand in hand with your beliefs if something supports your beliefs, RIGHT ON! Yet, how are you when something goes against it or challenges it? Is it still right on? Are you bothered by it? These are questions that as a reader and writer we get to feel, we get to see beyond the words truly connecting to the author. As I writer, I choose to be more like Roger. Very open, yes, giving my sense of feeling but also allowing space for the audience to feel and explore. Rigid writing is boring, and being one way closes me off. Embrace challenges,
