Metaphor (Week 7)

In “Ten Ways To Think About Writing: Metaphoric Musings for College Writing Students” by E. Shelley Reid. Reid’s article provided enough for me to understand what I can do to improve my writing. I think about it; I’ll have to see what kind of metaphoric writing I would use and one up my writing. I want to know what I can add to my writing so people can quickly engage. With the help of Reid and feedback from someone with experience, I can get to that goal.

One of the topics is “Writing as Conversation.” I like this one a lot because when writing, it feels better when it’s like I’m texting someone. At the same time, I’m pulling in the reader with what I have to say by providing them details as if I’m communicating with someone. That would go well with “Writing as a Visual Art” because visualizing what is being said helps with the imagery. Reid’s article can be used as a resource; I can look back on it if needed. Writing is whatever you can make with multiple metaphors, and when trying to find your style and voice in writing comes from trial and error because writing in the same doesn’t elevate the experience for readers. For example, when I write, I try to make my work sound professional, but I write to make sense, which causes me to be wordy. I kept something in mind that I heard last fall from taking this class and that I never write to sound smart, which means to use big words but to write how I would talk to make sense.
