Why Study Writing

For years, I’ve had a passion for writing, and I never had any issues with my papers except for my grammar mistakes, as in where I put certain punctuations. As for me, literacy is a skill beyond reading and writing. Literacy skills can influence anyone’s effectiveness by how they communicate, problem-solve, function in society, and handle professional challenges. This affects me professionally with communication which involves crafting clear reports, proposals, and presentations. In the article “You Can’t Teach Writing in General” by Elizabeth Wardle she mentions “but she will have to learn new things and not expect that what she already knows about writing is easily applicable in new situations”. From my understanding, it is easy to write and understand the concept of writing, yet you can navigate it in many ways. Writing isn’t easy to be taught. But is something that one person can come to find enjoyable and passionate about. However, in certain professional situations, you might have to change the writing style you are familiar with. In the article “Looking For Trouble: Finding Your Way Into A Writing Assignment” by Catherine Savini, she gives an example of how it can affect your critical thinking. “Problems are an expected part of our life, and our ability to deal with them can help determine our personal and professional success”. This spoke to me because informative literacy can impact how I evaluate credibility and quality of gathering information. In addition ensures those decisions are based on accuracy and relevant information.
